Why do I need a Wellness Coach?
Making lasting change is hard. Whether it is to eat healthier, lose weight, quit smoking, manage a chronic illness, or just make life a little less stressful, the idea of establishing new habits and creating a strategy for success can be daunting. You may have no idea where to start. Perhaps the motivation for change is there, but the game plan hasn’t been laid out. Frustration sets in because every time momentum is gained, it comes to a sudden halt because obstacles present themselves along the way. What is truly desired gets buried beneath the rubble of life’s demands.
What if you had support during this process? What if you had an advocate beside you as you embark on this path of ambiguity and uncertainty? What if this person was without judgment and listened authentically to YOU? What if this person didn’t cut you off every 3 minutes with rapid-fire solutions in a desperate attempt to solve your problem and move on? This person took empathetic interest in every detail regarding YOUR values and YOUR desires. What if this person walked with you to help you seek the solutions that work best FOR YOU?
What if what you need is a Wellness Coach? “Wellness Coaches are experts in establishing relationships and practice coaching skills that assist the individual in identifying values and desires, transforming them into action, and maintaining lasting change.” –The Mayo Clinic
Results may vary depending on the individual and his or her desires, but change is usually seen within 3-4 months and a minimum of 2 sessions per month. Clients are encouraged to create a Wellness Vision within the first or second session. A Wellness Vision is “a compelling statement that describes you as your “best-self.” It defines what you truly desire and how you live when you’re at your best. The vision may include behaviors, actions, strengths, feelings, relationships, or a metaphor or visual image for your comparison. The Wellness vision should give you confidence, energy, and authentication in your desired changes.” -Mayo Clinic
As you and your coach embark on your journey, you will soon be able to identify your strengths and values, prioritize what is truly important to you, and work towards implementing behaviors that will allow you to make lasting changes. Your coach is not the captain of this ship. You are. Your coach is your first mate. You call the shots. I’m just here to make sure you have the support you need to make lasting change leading to your best life.
